The morning began with a short walk into the heart of Canterbury — a city steeped in over a thousand years of history. Our students arrived at Canterbury Cathedral, a UNESCO World Heritage Site and one of the most important religious buildings in the world. Armed with audio guides, they embarked on a self-paced journey through the cathedral’s architecture and stained-glass windows.
They learned about Thomas Becket, whose dramatic murder in 1170 transformed the cathedral into a site of pilgrimage, a story made famous by The Canterbury Tales.
Following the cathedral visit, students were treated to a guided tour of The King’s School, Canterbury. As one of the oldest schools in the world, dating back to 597 AD, it offered a fascinating contrast to the modernity of King’s Shenzhen. From historic courtyards to cutting-edge facilities, the tour helped students imagine what life might be like studying in such a prestigious and historic setting.
